The intention of Fat Restaurant is not to make you fat but to show you the beautiful flavors of fat. Ladies, don’t back off and please forget your diet for a moment. Fat Restaurant has something to offer, worth the calories. Besides, you won’t get fat in one sitting. Just run 5km after! Haha!
Fat Restaurant, located in Burgos Circle BGC, is not noticeable from afar. Shades of gray hide the establishment away unfortunately. The concept of Fat Restaurant came from the same genius behind LocavoreChef Mikel Zaguirre. Proving that fat is not scary as we think it is, Chef Mikel uses his creativity to put fat into good use. As a foodie who treats health seriously, I won’t deny I wasn’t sold out to the concept initially. I didn’t think paying for extra fatty food is worth it. My judgments were changed when I allowed Fat Restaurant’s dishes speak for itself.

The Food:

Bar Mix (Php 290)
Rate: 5/5
What potion did Chef Mikel add in his Bar Mix? O and I were somehow unconsciously addicted to this mix – 12 spiced and with pop corn with powdered sugar and salted caramel. The next missing thing is the movie in front of us, with the ambiance of a cinema.
Green Tea Chicharon (Php 190)
Rate: 4/5
The experimental Green Tea Chicharon popped out of a deep-frying mistake. The supposed to be ‘normal-looking’ chicharon bubbled to a huge chunk, which in result was magically well-loved in the kitchen. Its turn out, giant-sized chicharon with green tea powder and pinakurat vinegar became an instant hit at Fat Restaurant.
Pork’s Ear En Croute (Php 370)
Rate: 4/5
Customers are most likely to be in harmony with Pork’s Ear En Croute. Grilled pork’s ear with herb oil, mango mayo and saffron aioli on rye bread. It’s the kind of salad pork lovers will fight for. With the right crunch and equally scattered fatty flavors, you might not move on from snacking on this.
Flammekueche (Php 390)
Rate: 5/5
To disprove the majority’s thinking about Fat Restaurant, Flammekueche, German thin crust pizza, has that appeal that de-stresses without showering you with fatty pork flavors. On top of lard foccacia, there you’ll taste its cream cheese, sour cream, smoked salmon, arugula, cornichons, ending with a drizzle of maple balsamic glaze.
Porchetta (Php 460/100g)
Rate: 4/5
Porchetta mirrors the image of Fat Restaurant, where it’s not a surprise to find this dish on the menu. I wasn’t enticed by its soft skin, which led me to knifing it and move to my side. I went straight to the juicy and luscious porchetta meat, packed with desirable flavors. Despite its unlovely skin, its bacon jam, whipped potatoes, spinach and mushroom ragout made up for it.
Moroccan Spiced Chicken Fillet (Php 595)
Rate: 4/5
Even if Moroccan Spiced Chicken Fillet doesn’t fit the whole concept for me, I’d say it’s a mistake not to order this dish. Take it from the couple (us) who receives comfort from recipes with strong tangy spices. Grilled chicken with spanakopita as its bed, cherry tomatoes on the side, sour cream and pico de gallo.
Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake (Php 360)
Rate: 3/5
Chicken and Waffles (Php 385)

The Ambiance:

Dainty marbled interiors in shades of black and grey.
Choose to stay by the window if you want to achieve that perfect instagram photo.
The second floor catches the eye of book nerds and those who are looking for a hideout, away from the stressful city. If you’re finding a new place to date, this fine unpopular side of Burgos Circle might work out.
It’s simple. FAT will make you love fat.
