When you buy a new phone, what are the factors that seal the deal? Frankly, the camera is the first feature I check out in a phone. In my head, it screams, “I need to snap photos of food!” It’s actually easy to please me. I don’t demand too much. A functional phone with a good camera may do the trick. Then, its aesthetics and price follow next.
I was introduced to the new Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0, an affordable high-performing phone now out in the market. Here’s a simple review from a lady’s perspective.
Camera
See what others can’t see with Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. It has a 13mp PixelMaster camera with f/2.0-aperture lens. For food photographers, we love to emphasize the beauty of textures. Most of the time, our shots rely on the aperture. With the brand new laser-autofocus built-in feature, it greatly reduces blurring and enhances image stabilization. The laser beam measures distances at lightning speed for faster near-instant focus. This is helpful for close-up photography.
It has been a challenge for phones to capture bright photos at night. So far, I was impressed with Asus Zenfone 2 Laser’s low light mode. Without the flash, the photos are enhanced to get a brighter finish. Lastly, if you want to keep larger files for photos you wish to print or frame, Super Resolution mode helps you capture detailed images at resolutions of up to 52mp. Now that’s huge! You might need a back-up hard drive for your photos.
Beauty
You are carrying your phone almost the whole time you’re up from bed. Thus, the design matters as you use it. If you are don’t appreciate bulky phones, you might find Asus Zenfone 2 Laser’s ultra-thin edges (3.5mm), where the volume and shutter button is moved to  the back to reduce the thickness. For small hands like mine, the size is just right for a comfortable experience.
ZenFone 2 Laser has a highly-intuitive control layout. As you can see, a physical rear key has made snapping selfies easier. As part of the new Ergonomic Arc design, it’s easier to control and adjust the keys whether you are right-handed or left-handed.
Available in 6 colors, you can choose from Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamour Red, Ceramic White and Twilight Purple to reflect your real personality.
It has a removable back cover for you to access to the dual sim card slots, 3,000mAh removable battery and changeable microSD card.
Performance
Let’s start with the battery. If you’re a heavy user and don’t like carrying power banks with you, the removable battery could last up to a day. For non-stop usage, like playing games and watching videos, it could last half a day more or less. In this case, better bring your power bank or charger with you.
ZenFone 2 Laser is powered by a midrange Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor. It generally has more than enough power for your daily tasks and activities.
For those living in the colder areas or on a trip to higher altitudes, wearing gloves may be a requirement. With Asus Glove Touch technology, the responsive screen make it easier to touch, swipe and gesture even if you’re wearing gloves.

The price is right at P7,695 (SRP). Now you know the price, it becomes difficult to turn your back on this reasonably priced phone.
