When I stumble into a criss-cross symbol – colored black or white – used as logo, I quickly associate the brand as hip and minimalist. Tell me if I’m wrong but hipsters nowadays feel the connection with the pattern “X.” I don’t claim to be a hipster (unlike Reine. Haha!) but ironically, I do have the attraction towards such logos/symbols. Usually, those brands choose to locate themselves in popular restaurant districts, in Fort, Makati and Ortigas. This new restaurant I discovered chose to be off the beaten path.
Standing out from its neighborhood, a new restaurant called Splice Resto Bar marked its X spot as the hippest place to be seen when you’re in Greenfield District.
My favorite food buddy O joined me for a 2-hr lunch despite a frenetic Thursday. We are both familiar with Greenfield since it has been a weekly routine for my church dgroup to meet around the area.

The Food:

Angus Tapa Poutine (Php 220)
Rate: 4/5
Filipino style poutine (Canadian style gravy fries) with savory angus beef tapa bits, herb gravy, cheese sauce and fresh herbs on top of thick-cut fries. Angus Tapa Poutine is an ideal appetizer if comfort food runs in your mind.
Sriracha Butter Wings (Php 270)
Rate: 4/5
Spoil me with chicken wings and I will love you back. The burst of butter melting over the chicken wings was my initial reaction. Then I remembered what Julia Child said, “You can never have too much butter!” Besides, it wasn’t entirely butter flavorizing the chicken. It was a fair balance with hot sriracha whipped on top. Indeed, this Sriracha Butter Wings is a fiery hot fingerlickin’ madness to get your hands dirty at Splice.
Danggit and Chicken Skin Carbonara (Php 270)
Rate: 4/5
Strong words used to describe Danggit and Chicken Skin Carbonara on the menu. It says, “Irresistible smell of danggit with crispy chicken skin guarantees a more bold flavor than bacon.” Do I contest? Nahh, I don’t need to. I nod my head to agree how irresistible the combination of danggit and chicken skin is on my ‘not too creamy’ pasta.
Homer’s D’ohnut Burger (Php 220)
Rate: 5/5
The thought of burger patties sandwiched between two glazed donuts is already heart attack in the mind. I would think the sweetness would crazily kill my palate. Homer’s D’ohnut Burger put a spell on me to adore this homemade beef patty topped with American cheese, D’oh! Bacon and Japanese mayo. Hitting the home run in my mouth, two freshly-made semi-sweet glazed donuts were strapped. Sweet and salty side of my palate were tapped for a winning piece without feeling the diabetic attack!

Splice Beef Pares (Php 200)
Rate: 4/5
The addiction for classic beef pares of one of the owners is the cause of Splice Beef Pares on the menu. Tender beef swimming in thick soy sauce paired with a bowl of garlic rice and broth. All three must party together to experience what this ultimate ‘go to’ comfort food is all about.

8-hr Pork Belly Confit (Php 270)
Rate: 4/5
Splice explained how patient they were in preparing this 8-hr Pork Belly Confit. Total of 8 hours in the kitchen to achieve the ‘melt in your mouth’ fork tender pork belly. Even if the skin was a hundred percent soft, not a single part was crunchy, you’d still go for the belly as you drizzle with chili balsamic vinaigrette.
For main entrees like this pork belly confit, you can choose among 3 types of rice: Buko Pandan Rice, Dirty Rice or Italian Rice.

Splice Beef Belly Barbecue (Php 330)
Rate: 4/5
Instead of pork barbecue on a stick, Splice used beef belly for a change. Splice Beef Belly Barbecue sticks were root beer braised and smothered with barbecue sauce to swiftly get strong, sweet and smoky flavors. On the side, you get a tiny cup of coleslaw and your choice of rice. I suggest, go for the Dirty Rice
Splice Iced Tea (Php 70)
Mango Shake (Php 110)
Rate: 4/5
Mango Pannacotta Crunch (Php 170)
Rate: 4/5
Tropical flavor of Mango Pannacotta Crunch receives pleasing reactions from me and O. Vanilla pannacotta in a glass with mango puree and D’ohnut crunch.
Meringue con Quezo (Php 170)
Rate: 5/5
Twisting your idea of cheesecake is this Meringue con Quezo. The theatrics of freshly baked meringue, cheesecake filling flowing through the plate, fresh strawberry puree, and graham cracker bits. Big stars and claps for this meal ender!

The Ambiance:

Greenfield District is populated by mostly call center workers from nearby buildings. Located beside Shangri-la Mall, customers who swing by the area get a variety of mix too.
The spacious place gives a modern industrial look with cushioned couches and chairs. Earth and warm tones that avoid popping colors. Fits the whole idea of dining for comfort.
