My honor student sister deserves a bowl of ramen!
That was her graduation treat after her shining moment on stage, as her name was announced as one of the honor students – or Achiever’s Circle in their school. (Proud ‘ate’ here!)
The whole day was pretty overwhelming for us, especially for her. The graduation ceremony took our time, include our preparations and all the etceteras happening behind the scenes. By the time we walked to the exit door, all we could think of was food. Stomachs were grumbling. Haha! We just wanted to be rewarded as well, as simple as a hot bowl of quality ramen would make it up.
We made her decide where to have dinner, near our area was the best option of course. Since we had an early flight scheduled the following day, her choice was also limited to restaurants in either Ortigas or Greenhills. After walking around Promenade, she ended up choosing Tampopo.
The casual and comfortable Japanese restaurant has been recognized in Singapore for its signature ramen. Tampopo takes pride not only in their ramen but also in their tonkatsu, which they call its preparation as a form of art.

The Food:

Both Reine and I looked forward to unlimited shredded cabbage with Japanese sesame dressing. It was something not to miss out in restaurants like Tampopo.
Hakodate Original Ramen (Php 370)
Rate: 4/5
Initially planned to order different types of ramen but we all ended up getting the same type of ramen. Well, 3 of us (dad, uncle and me) had Hakodate Original Ramen. Despite being pounded by my hunger at that moment, I still wanted to keep it calm and light. And that ramen I ordered did exactly how I wanted my meal.
Premium Loin Katsu (Set – Php 410 / A La Carte – Php 340)
Rate: 4/5
On mom and dad’s side of the table, they had Premium Loin Katsu Set. Fine crunch on the outside, prime meat inside. Our parents was in a good mood to settle with their katsu order.
Mentaiko Layer Cutlet (Set – Php 470 / A La Carte – Php 400)
Rate: 4/5
Reine was in a state of confusion and couldn’t decide immediately whether she would be getting ramen, as originally planned, or give in to tonkatsu, which is one of her favorites. She found herself more inclined to tonkatsu, Mentaiko Layer Cutlet Set, when she had to choose only 1. The strongest factor I would say was its unlimited cabbage, as part of the set.
We both loved the crunch of Tampopo’s tonkatsu. So delicate that the taste gives pleasure while dining. With its sauce, we couldn’t afford letting go of the meat with our chopsticks.
Salmon Katsu
Rate: 4/5
Table advertisement/promotions work! Let’s put mom’s case as an example. We were already in the middle of our dinner until she noticed the ad displayed on our table showing Salmon Katsu. She called the waiter and ordered her salmon. I thought it would take a long time and surprisingly, the waiter returned to our table quickly with the salmon on his hand.
I find Tampopo’s tonkatsu admirable. Any dish from their katsu line is worth ordering, aside from their famous ramen bowls. Truly, they’ve mastered the art of frying tonkatsu.

The Ambiance:

Once you’re inside Promenade, your eyesight couldn’t miss the open space of Tampopo showing how comfortable and charming it is to dine inside. The interiors stand out among its neighboring restaurants. With its elevated floor, the space creates a bigger illusion even if in reality, it’s not that big.
It feels like you’re outdoors, with all the bamboo materials used, but you’re actually inside. Be in your casual wear, there’s no strict dress code implemented.

Reine’s Graduation

Congratulations to my beautiful and smart “not-so-little” sister!! You bring so much joy to our family, with or without honors. 🙂 (Well, you did. So YAY! Haha!)
Have you tried the tonkatsu and ramen at Tampopo?
Share with me your thoughts! 🙂
