“Sorry, I don’t watch TV anymore.” My generation says that a lot! I can attest to that. I live in a generation where we are more exposed to the internet than the television in our home. I never wanted a television in my room but couldn’t live without my own laptop or PC in my room. Presently, we are hooked to our own screens to modify what we watch, not what the tv dictates on that specific time. And this is why I want to share with you guys this latest news from my telco partner, Globe.
With HOOQ, the millennials can have easy access to their choice of entertainment. Wait wait, let me clear with you what is HOOQ before I share with you my experience.
Hooq is an online entertainment service that gives you access to a library of thousands of international and local movies and TV series. This start-up venture of Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Entertainment is what our generation demands for, to be able to watch movies and TV series across our devices – be it smartphones, computers and tablets.

Globe + HOOQ

From Globe Telecom’s partnerships with Facebook, Spotify, the NBA, and Viber, the telco further strengthens its leadership by enhancing the digital lifestyle of Filipinos. From social media, music, sports, and messaging, Globe now takes over entertainment with HOOQ, Asia’s online entertainment service.
Local film and TV content will be available on HOOQ through partnerships with the country’s top studios – GMA, Viva Communications, Regal Entertainment, and ABS-CBN.
Here in the Philippines, you can now catch up on your shows and movies at your most convenient time. With 13 different genres, get to choose what film suits your mood. Be it action & adventure, drama, comedy, musical, romance, kids & family, etc., you can find it in Hooq’s selection of movies and TV shows.

Globe and Tattoo GoSURF Plans

To get access and get Hooqd, register to GoSURF299 or higher GoSURF and get HOOQ for free.
For postpaid subscribers like me, we get free HOOQ for 3 months while Prepaid subscribers get free HOOQ when you register. Free period starts on the same date as you register to GoSURF. Remember, you have to choose HOOQ as your content freebie. When you opt out of GoSURF, you will also be opted our of HOOQ.
According to Globe, you get free HOOQ on GoSURF, like Spotify, has a separated 1GB data allocation so you can enjoy other activities with your GoSURF data. Once the separate allocation is used up, it will automatically use your GoSURF data. When all allocations have been exhausted, you will be charged P2/MB for Postpaid or P5/15min for Prepaid for data use.
Postpaid’s No Bill Shock Guarantee: Be assured that you won’t pay more than P1,500 for mobile surfing per month when you subscribe to GoSURF 99 to 999. No Bill Shock also guarantees that you won’t pay more than P3,000 for your monthly surfing when you subscribe to GoSURF 1799 or GoSURF 2499.

Globe HOOQ Standalone Offers

If all you want is your access to HOOQ, standalone offers start at P199. 
For HOOQ 299 and 499, you are given data allocations dedicated to the service. Just a reminder, these standalone offers are valid for 30 days only. Be careful because upon consumption of these data allocations, data will be charged the default rate unless you’re registered to a data plan.

For Tattoo Home Broadband plans, you are entitled to a free HOOQ access valid within the billing cycle starting at Plan 1299.

Facts about HOOQ:

  • You can access HOOQ on up to 5 devices and download up to a total of 5 movies.

You can access your account in 5 devices total: that’s your smartphone and your tablets. Accessing via PC is not counted as a device. However, only a maximum of 2 devices can be logged in at the same time. The third log in will be blocked.

HOOQ uses *adaptive bit rate. ABR determines the screen size and Internet bandwidth of the user and will deliver the best possible video resolution to avoid video interruptions.

  • You can watch movies & TV series through streaming or via download!

Streaming
This means you can watch the video of choice over the internet, via web (www.HOOQ.tv) or an app on your iOS or Android device. All you have to do is click the “PLAY” button.

Downloading (Offline Mode)
You can download a video/movie on your mobile device for offline viewing or watching at a later time. You can save up to 5 videos PER account. (This means if you downloaded 2 on your iPad and 3 on your iPhone, you have already used up your 5 slots.) Done with watching the 5 and need to download more? Simply delete the old ones, and download again! These downloads are also in-app, meaning they’re not allowed to be shared, sent and saved to other desvices. To download, select the movie/video and click the “DOWNLOAD” button.

  • You can use your iOS and Android device or you can log on to the website to enjoy HOOQ.

iOS
It’s available in the App Store. You’re required to have iOS 7 and up, and you must have a Philippine iTunes account.

Android
For Android, it’s available on Google Play! HOOQ requires the Jellybean 4.1 and up OS to operate.

Web
Microsoft Silverlight should be installed. If this is not installed, there will be a prompt in the web browser to install this plug-in or you can go to: www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ for more instructions.

Q: I’m now registered to GoSURF / HOOQ Standalone, am I supposed to expect an activation code or is it automatic?
A: One activation code will be sent per registration to GoSURF or Stand-alone, and only one unique activation code is needed.

Q: I’m on the Globe myLifestyle Plan, how do avail of HOOQ?
A: The Entertainment pack of the new Globe myLifestyle Plan includes access to either HOOQ or NBA. For HOOQ access, it is available in P299/mo (1GB) and P499/mo (2GB). Similar to the standalone offers, it will not use up your GoSURF data allocation. You may also opt for a P199 denomination with no data allocation, but it will use your subscribed GoSURF data allocation. With the Entertainment bundle (or any GoSURF promo), you are not bound by Fair Use Policy.

After the Pacquiao-Mayweather fever last weekend, I went over to Hooq and watched “Pacquaio The Movie,” an old movie from 2006. I’m still at the infancy stage of exploring what HOOQ has to offer. We’ll see, I might really get Hooqd to this new entertainment portal.
