What’s with the hype of Yabu restaurant at the Atrium of Megamall?
The only time I go to Megamall is after attending worship services in CCF, St. Francis. Dad usually parks in Mega for faster valet. Right after 8 or 10am services, my family would always ask me the usual question, “Where will we eat?”. I get this question a lot but it’s hard to decide for my family since I know each of them has their own preferred cuisine. Most of the time, we fall on choosing Japanese cuisine. It’s the family’s favorite. Since Yabu opened in Megamall, we all wanted to try it badly. Unfortunately, every time we go to the Atrium, where Yabu is, the waiting area is always full of people in line. My sister and I would always feel disappointed when this happens. You can hardly get a chance to see Yabu without people waiting outside. 🙁
God hears my desires, even for food. 🙂 He knows that I’ve been wanting to enjoy a good meal in Yabu. Thank God I was invited to the launch of Yabu’s new menu called Katsu for 25.
In this event, I, together with selected bloggers and personalities, was given the chance to be the first to try Yabu’s new dishes on their menu.
First rice meal of the night was Yabu’s Special Katsudon created exclusively by Master Kazuya. It was our choice of katsudon, whether rosu (pork) (Php 330), hire (Php 350), chicken (Php 330) or ebi & fish (Php 365). I chose ebi & fish for myself. Regardless of what you pick, you will notice that the waiters wouldn’t give you sauce for your katsudon anymore. I waited for my sauce until the chef told us that sauce is already mixed up when we dig in our bowl. No need for treasure hunt. Right amount of sauce for your katsudon mixed up under your choice of meat. With egg included, this selection makes it the sunny side up of Katsudon. I’m telling you, this is one of the places to visit if Katsudon is your fancy. Waiting in line is worth your time!
Salmon Katsu Set (Php 435) drove me crazy. I love how fresh and succulent their salmon is. Salmon alone is already a fantastic treat for me. So adding fresh panko or Japanese breadcrumbs to make the texture golden crisp is more than satisfaction to me.
One important factor I love about Yabu is how they keep their fried dishes taste fresh and excellent. Using 100% natural canola oil makes the difference from other katsudon. Quality is one key for business to succeed. Yabu handpicks their meat and ingredients in order to maintain high quality for their customers to indulge. No wonder people keep on coming back to Yabu. I think you’ll be seeing me one of these days as one of their loyal customers lining up outside just to get a plate of those delectable fried katsu meals.
Seafood Set No. 2 (Php 515), another addition to the must-try dishes in Yabu. It is a combination of tiger prawn, salmon, creamy crab and Hiroshima jumbo oyster. Of course, they’re all fried, katsu style. What I love the most is their tiger prawn! It’s crazy delicious to keep me coming back to Yabu.
You can’t miss out on these unlimited sliced cabbage! The only reason why you’ll go veggie is because of their sauce! Plus, you’ll notice that almost everything edible in Yabu is fried. Thus, the way to balance your meal is by having your unlimited sliced cabbage on this side.

The hype for Yabu PH is unstoppable! I don’t think you should miss out on this restaurant when you happen to be in Megamall or nearby.
After years! Finally, Dani Barretto and I saw each other at the event.
