If I could try every burger joint in the Philippines, I would.
One of the holidays this August, O and I chose to drive and dine out instead of keeping our butts on the couch and watch movies. The lane is always smooth along Metro Manila highways during holidays. No traffic! We love switching our music to road trip sounds and sing as we drive along. As we drove to the North, specifically to SM North Edsa, there was a sudden slow motion movement of our car. As I faced from my iPhone to the mall in front of me, I was shocked with what I saw. Almost everyone from the North side chose to spend their time at the mall too. Long queues at the entrance of every door of SM North. That’s how Manila rolls. Holiday means mall day!
We didn’t think of backing out or making a u-turn. Longing to try a new burger joint motivated me to pray for a parking slot easily. Even before we reached the ticketing booth of the parking building, I was praying for a vacant parking slot. I was that desperate to eat. Time check, that was already after lunch, around 2pm. I was really hungry and only drank Nice Day Coffee for breakfast. Did we get a parking slot right away? The hungry me was too hungry that I forgot we had a driver that time. We didn’t need to park anymore but just go down by the mall entrance inside the parking building. What a big mistake! Hunger could turn me nuts!
I was rejoicing like a child after seeing the sign of the restaurant where we will be eating. Wham! Burgers and Sausages’ bold logo shined from the point where I was standing.

The Food:

Wham! Burgers and Sausages, owned by Tony Yap, is proud of introducing their 100% Filipino burger brand that competes with multinational brands selling quality beefy burgers. Purely beef, with no added MSG or extenders for thick and firm texture. To rub more fun to the store, Wham! serves not only burgers but also sausages and other appetizers.
Pepper Poppers (Php 98)
Rate: 4/5
Fried poppers injected with cheese and a spiced taste of jalapeño. Too dangerous to sit beside me, I might abuse myself forking one by one until I finish all of them quickly.
Spaghetti (Php 95)
Rate: 4/5
Jollibee Spaghetti loyal members may have an alternative for their favorite Pinoy spaghetti. The sweet pinoy style of Wham’s Spaghetti combines the kind of sweet tomato sauce a pinoy wants, ground meat and chopped hotdogs topped over with grated cheese.
Spaghetti Fries (Php 139)
Rate: 4/5
Twin sister of Spaghetti, instead of noodles Wham switched it to fries. Hot, crispy and thick fries with identical spaghetti sauce with more cheese on top.

 Burgers

Carefully saved some space for Wham’s specialty, their all beef burgers!

Bronco Burger (Php 199)
Rate: 3/5
Wham addresses the cravings of Filipinos for barbecue sauces for their burgers through Bronco Burger. Western style burger with cheese, bacon strips, fresh onion slices glazed with smokey barbecue sauce. Before noticing the combination, I would say the patty wasn’t the greasy type of burger we often see in other burger joints. I recognized the patty as distinct for its packed, heavy and dense texture. A patty that I feel appropriate for my taste. Rather than extremely greasy and beyond messy burgers.

The fresh onions ruined it for me. I’d toss it more on the pan to create a softer and cooked onions on my burger. Its bacon and barbecue sauce precisely suited the smokey burger patty that brought me back to our backyard where we grill and smoke meat for dinner.
You could order a solo burger, without drinks and sides. Or, get a combo, with a drink and fries. There was also an option to change your fries to another kind of sides – cross traxx, onion strings, onion rings, potato wedges, pepper poppers or spaghetti.
Double Whammy with Cheese (Php 249)
Rate: 4/5
Double the weight of a single patty with another patty. Twice the fun of smokey real beef burger, cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mustard. I never twinned my burgers. But for O, he called this as a man’s choice of charcoal-grilled burger.
Kapow (Php 199)
Rate: 4/5
Signature charcoal-grilled beef patty with chili sauce, freshly made salsa, American cheese and jalapeño peppers. I handled the heat parallel to loving the choice of blend in my mouth. A short trip to Mexican food done in the way of dealing with burgers.
Whammer (Php 259)
Rate: 4/5
A saleable item on the menu, Whammer Burger that kept me high due to its crunchy buzz. Signature patty topped with deep fried onion strings, bacon, cheese and a slight balance of healthy ingredients through tomatoes and lettuce right in between.
So far, Whammer Burger softly slipped extra calories into my body for that holiday. That was the best among the list of burgers at Wham!

Sausages

A feast of sausage in a bun took hand in hand with the burgers. 4 choices of sausages were quite impressive but placing them beside burgers turn semi-invisible to my sight.
Flavors of Sausages
Wiener (Php 135) – house blend Wham sausage.

Schublig with Cheese (Php 149) – A traditionally smoked Swiss sausage made with beef, pork and a blend of spices.
Beer Sausage (Php 149) – Simmered in beer and onions, Wham’s sausage climbs to the next level of juiciness.

Kielbasa (Php 168) – A Polish smoked sausage of coarsely chopped beef and pork, finished with flavors of garlic and spices.
Bavaria (Php 129)
Burgers and beers pair together. An imported beer, Bavaria, pushes down the flavor burgers easily in style.

The Ambiance:

Wham! can’t contain everyone inside the store. Tables and chairs outside give enough space for everyone eager for a piece of Wham! Burgers and Sausages.
As a foodie, you share your own opinion on your favorite food. For burgers, mixed of bias reactions on what’s the best or the worst. Wham! does not compete with burger stores that sell greasy and mouthwatering photogenic burgers. It has its own edge by charcoal-grilling the old-fashioned way. Pretty much fits your appetite if you’re demanding for the non-greasy type of real beef burgers.
Take your chance if you feel Wham! Burgers and Sausages is your type of food.
Don’t forget to share with me your thoughts! 🙂
