Kimukatsu is now in Manila, the most famous pork cutlet restaurant in Japan!
Manila is becoming more and more flavorful each year as restaurant chains bring in the hottest franchises to our hungry country. Next to ramen, tonkatsu competition is sizzling with demands and crazes from the Filipinos. It’s another Japanese trend everyone’s been craving for. Based on observation, Kimukatsu is going to be a strong competitor of Manila’s famous katsu place, Yabu.
The combination of a crispy, texture-rich batter surrounding a juicy flavorful 25-layered select pork cutlet is what made Kimukatsu so famous in Osaka, Tokyo, Yokohama, Sendai and more cities in Japan. Manila, Philippines is the latest branch outside Japan, the 5th, next to branches in USA.

The Food:

I love katsu places because of this unlimited shredded cabbage with special Japanese sesame dressing. The difference between Yabu and Kimukatsu is that Yabu’s cabbage server roams around to offer you their unli cabbage. At Kimukatsu, you need to raise your hand and look for the cabbage server to refill your salad plate.
Potato Salad (Php 130)
Rate: 2/5
For one of our starters, we had this unlikely light Potato Salad that’s too much covered with mayonnaise. I’m not so friendly with mayonnaise so this is not my type of starter.
Ebi Mayo (Php 210)
Rate: 2/5
Is it impressive? Not too much for me. It’s good to have this variant as an appetizer but for the amount of serving and price, I’d wait for my katsu instead.
Agedashi Tofu (Php 180)
Rate: 4/5
The coating and its sauce gives it a good mark as a starter. If you can’t wait for your katsu, Agadeshi Tofu is the healthy way to go.
7 Flavor Kimukatsu Assorted Set (Php 2,400)
Rate: 5/5
Oh my goodness! Which one to eat first?!
It’s such a dilemma to choose from the 7 Flavor Kimukatsu Assorted Set.
This set is ideal for families and groups who dine in.
7 Flavors:
1) Plain – the standard Kimukatsu.
2) Cheese – filled with savory cheddar cheese.
3) Negi Shio – spring onion flavor
4) Yuzu Kosho – Japanese taste of yuzu fruits and green chilli pepper.
5) Ume Shiso – sour plum shiso leaf.
6) Garlic – minced garlic Kimukatsu.
7) Black Pepper – coated with high-grade black pepper.
My top 3:
1) Ume Shiso – A unique flavored Kimukatsu that is a favorite among Japanese women. Its shiso leaves set the difference, making this flavor stand out among the rest.
2) Black Pepper – Much pepper isn’t my ideal preference for my katsu. I’d rather eat more garlic than pepper. With that personal fact, it’s ironic how I grabbed more Black Pepper katsu and liked it more than Garlic flavor. Its flavor stretched from inside to outside of the katsu itself.
3) Cheese – How can I refuse to cheese? This sinful ingredient adds more love to any food, especially for bringing more flavor to Kimukatsu.
The fun part about katsu places is grinding your sesame seeds for your katsu sauce.
A family of 4 could share with a plate of 7 Flavor Kimukatsu set.
The premium rice that adds goodness to our katsu. Placed in a special wood container, the aroma and fragrance of this rice is vibrant as we take a piece of any tonkatsu flavor. What’s good about this, it’s unlimited, just like their cabbage! Pinoys surely love the word “unli!”
Japanese Pana Cotta (Php 110)
Quite difficult to choose the best among these desserts. Kimukatsu’s version of Japanese Panna Cotta gave me a new insight on how Panna Cotta could be. I give this dessert as part of my ordered dessert when I go back to Kimukatsu.
Kurogoma Pudding (Php 110)
Rate: 4/5
This is what I like! Black sesame as dessert joint with pudding, it is real love.
For those who don’t fancy black sesame, this dessert might not be apt for you.
Matcha Parfait (Php 230)
Rate: 4/5
Specially ordered this Matcha Parfait as a follow-up order. Pudding was supposed to be the last one but knowing a Matcha Parfait exists, a Jill couldn’t resist. It is generally fair, nothing so commendable for their Matcha Parfait. It only filled up my craving for green tea.

The Ambiance:

Lights lights lights. Brightens up my day to stare at attractive lights.
For private functions, Kimukatsu has a small Japanese homey dining area for you.
If you don’t need to be private, staying outside with the pack of katsu lovers won’t be a biggie at all.
Why you should try Kimukatsu?
It’s all about their famous 25-layered select pork cutlet. Japanese katsu lovers cannot afford to miss out the latest addition to the katsu family in the Philippines, Kimukatsu.
Pray, Eat and Love.
